5

Welcome All-Stars to your fifth task of the season. This week is a layering and un-layering challenge. Typically excessive layering is frowned upon, I want you to do just that. Create a fashion-forward design that is so intricate it's practically criminal. That's not all... I want you to create a second design that mirrors the aesthetic of the first; but using a minimalistic approach.

The designs should be harmonious in terms of palette, texture, and aesthetic.

Good luck!

PHOTOSHOOT

This was the best week so far . . . close in scoring

layered

This design; though it incorporates layers which is what I asked, seems like a recreation of the unorthodox task. You ran with the idea too far in my opinion. That being said the colours are crafted beautifully and I adore the fur tufts throughout. Overall a busy design that has potential; I just imagined a different route for this task.

minimal

In comparison to the layered design, this is definitely a minimalistic approach. It's inventive and structured quite nicely. It does feature some unorthodox aspects, mirroring the aesthetic of the first and I commend you on sticking to the idea. I think you were a tad confused but overall this is still a good design. Thanks.

Vyia

layered

There aren't too many layers in this design; it is underwhelming in that aspect. I wanted criminal designs that pushed boundaries and still looked fashion-forward. Not to say this is a bad outfit; it's quite good. It just doesn't relate to the task whole heartedly like other designs this week. You may have lost yourself in the mix.

minimal

A pretty minimal design, you mirrored the first design appropriately in terms of palette and structure. I think it could use a bit of polishing. Though it comes across as minimal it isn't very fashion forward. You could have worked some more inventive and creative aspects into this so make it more noticeable. It's getting down to the wire and every fault is being exposed. Thanks.

layered

I feel as though you've shown this in your repertoire in the past. The palette is comforting and very 'you'. I'm waiting for you to break through with a revolutionary design that leaves me shocked. I saw a few that you didn't submit at panel and wish you had. The layering wasn't spectacular or awe inspiring. Just falls short for me.

minimal

The better of the two designs, I see the inspiration rekindling. I enjoy the linear aspect you've spread throughout the design in the use of the shoes, shirt, belt. Very smart. I think had you played with that in the previous design it would have shown better together. Overall I think you're so close to figuring out how you can show your full potential. Stretch it a bit further.

This is the best palette I've seen this week. You amaze me with the use of colours consistently. I am very pleased with this design. Each piece is entwined in such a creative and unique way. I love the balance it holds with the structured collar and baggy pants. This is your best design this season. Well done.

Equally as impressive, I enjoy the splatter of blue and how you managed to tie it with the earrings. It is verbatim what I wanted this week for this task. Great job.

Gorgeous palette, definitely stands out this week. In terms of layering; you showed the technical side. It comes across as being a bit muddled together and not as fashion-oriented as I would have liked. Though it is still a palpable design you have to think of all aspects and how it will translate in a fashion competition. Thanks.

minimal

I cant help but look at the shoes, they are harmonious with this collection and work very well. I love the smooth textures you stuck with in every aspect; they really play well together and offset the commotion from your layered design. Overall a great attempt at this task, I think you did a good job.

You've created something so unique this week; this is one of the best designs I've seen you make. It is very graphic and comical. Yet it still incorporates fashion. I'm pleased with the result as you should be. The blue is a nice contrast to the black and white and balances the orange in the chest. Good job!

minimal

Had you used a solid jacket this would have spoke as a more minimalistic design. It still has quite a bit going on in the chest that it didn't offset the previous design in the way I had hoped. In no way is this a bad design, it just didn't highlight the task as much as it should have. The hues of blue in the skirt and belt are very nice, however. Thanks.

layered

This is very ornate and has a crafty composition. I love the shapes and movement of colour trickling down the bodice; I think this is a stunning result and an accomplishment. Well done this wee.

minimal

In relation to the first design it doesn't 'wow' me as much; however it is a minimal design nevertheless. I think mocking the graphic element into the chest with the use of the white shape was clever and it definitely associated itself well with the layered design. Overall this was a good week for you. Thanks.

layered

This almost resembles armour, I think this is an exceptional use of fabrics and layering. The colours are so bold and draws your eye directly to the focus of the task this week. The thing I love the most about these designs are the opposing use of colours. Top of the layered design and bottom of the minimal. Very intelligent placement.

minimal

The aesthetic of this creation matching the layered is genius. The purse worked its way into the design and it belongs there. You took the longest this week and it paid off. I see exceptional results. Overall very strong collection.

layered

I'm obsessed with the diagonal slant you have in this design; working its way up to the headpiece. This is one of the most clever attributes i've seen in a backwards design. The layers are thought out and the pop of colour in the shoe is beautiful.

minimal

The minimal design is just as good as the layered. It has a lot of aspects that I place with your designing style; they work perfectly for this task. Collectively this is a splendid attempt. You brought the task together appropriately with these two designs. Well done.

That brings the first part of WEEK 5 to a conclusion. The top 2 this week are MAJESTEUX and ISSUS. They will face-off and re-do the task using a new approach to see who will claim the top spot of the week. The winner will save either JOZINGA or VYIA. Sending 1 designer home. Once again; you create your own path in this game and seal your fate. This isn't the end for the bottom 2; you better fight for that spot. Good luck!

24 HOURS TO RESUBMIT

An exceptional week; both of you have accomplished so much and you've paved your journey well so far in this competition. I look forward to seeing your growth and progression. You both turned in some spectacular re-submissions. I decided the collection I was going to award the win to was the one that envisioned a whole idea. Combining the same elements in both designs and ultimately showing me minimalism and uncanny layering. Congratulations MAJESTEUX. As a reward for your efforts you were granted the privilege of sending either VYIA or JOZINGA home.

The designer that you have decided to get the chop is . . .

JOZINGA

"I've chosen to eliminate Joey. I consider you a great friend, but I feel the same about Taylor. Considering your charts, your three bottom 3 appearances vs her 2 and a win give her a leg up. And while I hope you can forgive me, I just can't take your attitude in this game. Love you."

Your progression and various placements in past longterms have led you to my All-Star season. You've managed to show me what you're made of; though it didn't get you to the end. You still stuck to your guns and kept true to yourself; I couldn't ask for anything less. Thanks for everything.  You are and will always be an All-Star.
